Medical Jobs-Always Growing
in Number
Everyone has an idea about where they would like to go in
life. Sometimes this works out, and other times, nothing seems
to go right. Many find that they are looking for new careers
when they reach the middle of their working years. Some of them
decide they would like to try some medical jobs because they
often pay pretty well and are always around in any area of the
country. You can’t become a doctor overnight, of course, but
there are plenty of other positions that most don’t think about
trying.
Nursing is one of the most obvious of medical jobs, and
though college is required, you can get there pretty fast. The
typical college time for an LPN (licensed practical nurse) is
about one year at most schools. RN’s (registered nurse) often
go longer. Many start out as an LPN and then go back to school
later to become an RN because they will make more money that
way. Nurses can find medical jobs in all fields of medicine
including private practice, hospital, ER, intensive care,
nursing homes, or even in physical therapy or home therapy.
Other types of medical jobs might require some training, but
you won’t have to go to a four year college to get what you
need. Some only require a year or two of study, just like with
nursing. All medical establishments need those who know a
little about medicine to work in the offices and answer the
phones. Some draw blood as medical assistants, and they also
assist the doctors and the nurses. These jobs can often be in
private practice, which means moms can find a career that
allows them to work while their kids are in school.
All medical establishments have medical jobs in things like
billing or what is called coding. Though some outsource this to
larger places, everyone needs to bill customers and keep track
of everything that goes on. There is also some education
involved with coding, but only a year or two will be required.
These medical jobs can pay very well, and these positions
always need to be filled. Coding jobs are usually weekday jobs
as well, making this type yet another good choice for moms with
kids that are schooled age.
Many hospitals will hire for open positions through their
own system. That means you might have to start out as a nurse’s
aid and then keep your eye open for the medical jobs you are
seeking. Most will give priority to anyone who applies that
already works for them. If they can not find anyone that way,
they will then advertise for medical jobs in the paper. While
training is always good before hand, some will hire you and
then put you through school. If you can find something like
that, you are well on your way.
