Online Marketing

 The term "Online Marketing" generally applies to just about any home business promoted on the web.  It would include everything from the infamous "get rich quick" scams to a full eCommerce website.

Mountain Web's owner and contributors have been actively marketing online since the early 90's.  Needless to say, the internet has changed dramatically in that period of time.  We have listed the various means of online marketing below with links to resources where applicable.

email spam  The most irritating type of marketing on the web of course is email spamming.  Since absolutely no one enjoys going through hundreds of unsolicited email each day, this is one method we never recommend.  Although there are legal ways of doing email broadcasts today, the return on the investment is so small that it simply isn't worth the liability attached to it.

ezines  These are the newsletters that are sent to "opt-in" mailing lists via email.  This can be effective if you find an ezine with a very targeted mailing list which matches your specific offer.

article directory  These are sites which host your written articles for other webmasters to read and use on their sites.  You supply your name and website address etc and this serves as a link to your advertised site or page.

Banner advertising  This is usually in the form of "Paid for" banners that are hosted on highly visible web sites.  No longer a very effective means of advertising. 

Adwords, Yahoo Ads and MSN Ads  This is "key word" advertising where you bid on the specific key word.  This can be very expensive and is open to fraud.  

eCommerce  This is the standard internet retail store front.  This has become the standard for those who have "real" products to sell to a wide customer base.

eBay  Once just an auction site, today this is a premium internet source of just about anything imaginable.  With well over one hundred million regular users, this is the fastest means of getting any product on the market in the least amount of time.  There are also many other ways to benefit from eBay besides selling.  See our resources section for details.

affiliate marketing  This is the act of selling a product owned by someone else.  Usually the owner provides you with a very good commission for each sale.  Recommended Information

mlm or Network marketing  This is a system where emphasis is placed on growing a sales organization 'under you' more so then just selling an individual product.  The sales pitch is that you will earn a substantial income from the efforts of those in your team.  There are literally thousands of these type organizations starting up (and failing) each year.  Wonder why?  Recommended Information
